Fitting Turbo to a 1976 244 DL B21E[ALL/1998] posted by Owen Woodland on

Is it possible to fit a turbo (with intercooler) to a B21E (4cyl) from a 1976 244 DL? If so, does anyone know how to put one in (just a brief gloss over, nothing detailed), and where to get one from?
Thanks.

Telling some one in print a step by step is what Haynes is for
If the intake ports can handle the draft, and you can make all the necesary manifolds fit . my question would be how long will this hang together ? I have always been told that the lower end specs were different for non turbo models ,The way i drive i don't need a turbo to get into trouble( although there are sign s of advanced adulthood ) as miss frizzle would say get messy take, chances scrape a few knuckels
Do the math, take a weekend play with it

I'm curious to know the effects of turbo-charging an engine that was intended for normal aspiration. The compression ratio is lower on a turbo engine (7.5 to 1, I think). I'm wondering if a B21E (or F?) might experience a lot of pinging and/or detonation if it was force-fed. ---Brian T.

I don't know about the detonation but I know turbo blocks have a special casting in the side for the oil return pipe which would be extremely difficult to drill/machine and not have a chronic BIG oil leak.
