Recently purchased a '91 740 wagon.

The interior panel on the rear door is loose. The clips on the upper
end of the panel (that are supposed to hold the panel on) snap into
holes in the plastic. These holes have been "expanded" or "broken
larger" so the clips no longer hold (probably from someone slamming the
rear door very hard).

Does anyone have a fix for this problem?

I, too had this problem on my 90 745. One of my local dealers stocks a small kit to repair them - has some metal pieces that you screw onto the trim piece. The kit is not made by Volvo - made by some small outfit in Canada, but I think that it has a Volvo part #. If your dealer does not have them, you should be able to get one by callling:

I've seen this one before...I just use a good quality plastic molly designed for use in sheetrock walls. I set it in hole and put a black trim screw thru panel. The screws are available at Pep Boys, etc. for $5 a box, mollys from Home Depot for same.

By the way, I have senthe ENTIRE rear window pop out when some idiot slammed the tailgate closed on a 245. Airtight, baby! Plus it can really FU the lock mechanism and such.

The best I've seen is a 245 with a set of 4 component speakers mounted in the tailgate panel, which was held in by the screw/molly design....sounds killer!

You can repair this with four cotter pins. You can drill a hole in the panel sideways of where the clips are installed. Split the cotter pin enough to go under the arrow shaped end of the clip. Push the cotter pin through the clip and spread the ends of the cotter pin. Then install the panel by lining up the slots and pull the panel down and into place.

The cotter pin repair is permanent and is about $.50 at your local hardware store
