Headrest replacements for 1994 940 sedan[ALL/1998] posted by Wayne Sweitzer on

Just bought a 1994 940 sedan; I love it, EXCEPT...I have found that
the front seat headrests "push" ones head forward enough to cause spine curvature (real bad on long trips, especially). I've heard rumors that
1992 or 1993 headrests were more "straight up" and that they also fit a
1994.
Questions:
1. Has anyone else experienced this and/or have a fix?
2. Does anyone know if it is true about previous model years' headrests
fitting the 1994?
3. Does anybody know where I can get hold of USED headrests? (Have been
to a number of local junk yards, to no avail -- dealer wants $300 a piece
for new headrests!!)?
Thanks in advance,
Wayne Sweitzer.

Wayne;
the best way to solve your problem and get the answer to your question about
the headrest is to go take the space measurements from your 94' 940 (from
one side of where the metal sleeve is inserted into the top of the seat to
the other side of the other one) and go down to your nearest Volvo dealership
look on his lot to see an older 940 that has the flat headrest and measure it.
If they are of the same spacing than they will fit. If you wanted a flat
headrest try to find a used "volvo" junk yard. I've never taken apart the headrest on my 92' 940 (by the way the 940 has the flat headrest). I hate the leather seats! But, they came with the car.
..... If you asked the Volvo Dealership parts Dept. for the cost of replacement
of your headrest you have now, they would be able to infor you if they would fit or not! They wouldn't seel you an item that wouldn't fit! They may be able to
inform you as to how to take the seat rests out for replacement. If they were
willing. If not get back to me I can find out for you!

Dear Aber57: THANKS!!! You saved me some serious time and $$$, not to mention aggravation...I thought about trying to bend the headrests, but the metal rods appeared to be too solid. Sure enough, your "knee in the back of the seat" trick worked like a charm.
What a great thing this internet can be -- I must've talked to 15 volvo owners, dealers, experts, etc., and not one of 'em offered the quick-n-simple answer I got from just "posting it out there" on the net!
Thanks again. Happy Volvo-ing!
