Wanted: Weber Downdrafts[ALL/1998] posted by jarrod on

I want to replace my SUs with downdrafts. I would prefer to have manual choke. If anyone has these around and even if they are unsure about how well they work, I want them.

This is an urgent matter. Please call 612.901.6650, and I will return the call as soon as I am able.

Or just e-mail mail. I will get it by tonight.

Jarrod: In 1984 I sawed off the mainfold on my B18/'69 144, welded 1/4" flat flanges to altered elbows and bolted on a couple of downdraft Tillotson carbs for a chev 6. Manual choke(s), of course. Had to change to smaller jets. It all worked perfect. Not sure of the spelling for "Tillotson". Reason for this brand was high and low speed metering availability. Any single barrel downdraft should work. You can ask around for CFM specs and evaluate individual particulars yourself. Be sure to check availability of needle/seat replacements as this will allow for good tuning. Good luck - Jim

Jarrod: I missed the "Webber" ID when I sent you the info. Sorry 'bout that. I considered Webber carbs, but for $28.00 each, the Tillotson's worked just fine. Did the whole job in an afternoon including paint, got fantastic mileage, aceleration, smooth, even idle, and no headaches. Far as I know, the car is still running around Everett (WA). Last contact in 1995 and carbs hadn't been touched. Jim
