I am planning to purchase a 1980 DL wagon without a roof rack. Is it possible to add a roof rack to this car? can i get one from salvage yards?

Yes you can fit a no roof rack 245 with a rack, I believe the mounts are inetral to all wagons. The problem is drilling the holes in proper locations, aand the proper use of gasketing and a liberal amount of mastic/putty to seal the openongs against water leaks.

Try the link below for a rack, and I recommend you talk to a local body shop about the mounting work as they may have more/better tools and experience. Unless you feel REALLY proficent, get a pro.

While you are at it check the tailgate wiring that passes thru the hinges, as it has a habit of developing cracks/breaks in the wire strands and ground wires.

I have a '79 265 that I'm parting. The rack is in pretty good shape, and I'd ship it to you collect if you're interested. I'm in central Washington state.
Regards,
Tom
