My 86 745t also vibrated badly at idle, then the shifter one day dropped about 2 inches and the car shook and groaned when driven--2 broken motor mounts and broken driveshaft coupler! $350 later all is well. I was able to see the right motor mount (under the oil filter) and could see that it was severly split. Esp. in a turbo with moderate power, these mounts are often damaged.
