1800E conversion[ALL/1998] posted by Tom on

I'm interested in converting my '71 1800E to carbs in hopes of better drivability. It seems to be tempremental, hard to start [mostly in hot weath],
sluggish, irratic idle, and hard to keep in proper tune [either knocks or won't
idle/start] , and definiteley doesn't like modern gas. I understand the convert.
is fairly commom . Does it help and where do I start?

Hey hey hey. I am currently doing the same conversion.

I recently put a b20f in my '68 142 which had d-jetronic fuel injection.

The system worked fine until severe eather hit. I chased one problem down after another and finally parked it.

Recently, I replaced the injection system with the SUCarb intake with attached exhaust manifold (original setup). Contrary to what some might tell you, this works without a hitch. The gasket you need is the one for the SU setup.

Tip: soak the nuts with penetrant long before trying to remove the d-jet system. Also, expect a bolt break.

I know an honest fellow in southern Minnesota who has many of these carbs with manifolds lying around. He will give you the best price you can find:

Tell him I sent you. I want to let him know about the power of the internet, plus I have told him about the board and all these good vibes.
