Sounds like you may have some carbon build up in the combustion chambers. A bottle of some type of fuel treatment may help this.

I too had knocking on my 86 745t. Basic tuneup stuff (rotor, cap, wires, plugs) did not help, neither did 92 octane. But waht did wonders was TECHRON! One bottle did the trick, about $3. I went back to reg. gas, but still knocked. But no knock with 93. Alex
