'89 740 Turbo Wagon extra rims[ALL/1998] posted by Jim Ray on

I have 4 snows that are not on rims.
I plan to buy 4 used rims.
Is there anything that I should look for on the used rims to make sure they will fit my car?
My brother-in-law runs a Goodyear store and told me to look for damage around the holes for the lugs.
He also told me to spin the rims and look for any wobble, if there is no way to spin them before I buy he said to roll them slowly on a flat surface and look for any wobble both from behind as well as from the side. He said to expect some rust, and, some rust is not a problem.
Any other thoughts?...

Jim, check your existing rims and see if there is a locating pin between two of the bolt holes. If so check the replacement rims for this or have a shop drill new ones,(easier done than described).
I used to have a shop put the wheel on the balancing machine and see if it spun true and was not warped, sometimes the amount of weight and number needed will point to this.
A good source is a local salvage yard, I get 'em for $15-25 a wheel and most will take 'em back of swap if they are warped. Sandblast/wire wheel 'em and put on a coat of Volvo Silver wheel paint, put in new valves/stems and yer done.
While yer at it toss the donut spare and get a real one. After having to drive from Richmond to Staunton in VA on I64 in the rain with 3 goodies and a donut the memories still makes me shiver!!! The tyre is only good on dry pavement at 45mph or less and has the usefullness of a Tonka Toy Tyre.
