1985 Volvo 740 Turbo[ALL/1998] posted by j on

My 1985 Volvo suffers from an intermitten failure to accelerate when asking for more torque from the engine. Nothing changes even if the accelerator is floored. If you lift your foot from the accelerator, or, sometimes when floored, suddenly the car will accelerate as required. An additional problem, which may or may not be related, is, while idling the car will sometimes die out as you attempt to accelerate to move forward. I have taken the car to my Volvo mechanic several times for these problems. Several months ago the O2 sensor was changed. The mechanic says this is no longer a problem. The air mass sensor was switched with a functioning air mass sensor from another Volvo and the air mass sensor was determined by the mechanic not to be defective. Have you encountered this problem? Do you have any suggestions that my mechanic might investigation to solve these problems? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
