544 Rear Axle Limit Straps[ALL/1998] posted by John Erickson on

I replaced the broken limit straps on my '61 544 with new ones and noticed that they are tight when the car is sitting on the ground (no jacks). I thought the problem might have been the shocks, but new Volvo shocks didn't change anything. Jim McDonald told me that he had the same problem and installed 1" spacers to allow some downward axle travel. I'm about ready to do the same, but it just doesn't seem right. The straps are the correct length (and correct part number). Was the car designed this way?
