Rear Window Defroster[ALL/1998] posted by Ching-Ho Cheng on

One of the rear window defroster line has corrosion and is not working right now. My 95 855 is still under warranty. Does anybody know that dealer will fix/replace the rear window for no charge ? Or, I have to go to any auto-glass shop to have it replaced and ask insurance company to pay for it.
My understanding is that front windshield is not cover by warranty. I am not sure about the rear window defroster.
Thanks for the help.

I suppose it depends on how the malfunction occurred. If it was an "accident," then the dealer will probably reject any warranty claim. But, if the grid line simply stopped working without any mechanical damage, then I would think the dealer should repair it under warranty.
Either way, the glass probably will not be replaced; the grid line can be repaired by glass technicians using a special electrically-conductive "paint," provided the damaged/inoperative section is just a small gap.
My entire rear glass was replaced under warranty on a used car. But, this was because the defroster grid lines were "too far gone" to repair.
(At first, my dealer attempted to have a glass shop repair the grid lines; the subcontractor said there was too much damage. In my case, the damage was pre-existing on the used car, so the replacement glass was covered by the used car warranty. I don't know if this particular dealer was trying to impress me or if this is general Volvo policy. ...But I WAS impressed... )
