Where can I find the drop shaft oil seal for the steering box on my '70 P1800? The local Volvo dealer claims they are no longer available.
Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Try Boston Volvo Village at 1-800-336-2355. Ask for John Sharisky. If John can't come up with one, it might be time to consider filling the steering box with chassis grease. -Glenn.

Rusty who runs RPR in Albany (510-524-7200) is a very good source for the no longer avaialable from Volvo stuff. He used to have a seal that works but no longer. He suggested to just take out the box and take it to a GOOD shop that works on such or transmissions (like speedo cable seals) or maybe hydraulics and have them fit a seal. Grease may be better than nothing but will dry up and mask the non lubrication, I think. If you want to keep the car try to get it replaced and use oil.
