240 Door Panel Fasteners[ALL/1998] posted by Norm Lizotte on

Anyone able to suggest a good way to repair the fiberboard inside panels on 240 doors? There are little plastic fasteners attached to the fiberboard. These plastic fasteners pop into predrilled holes in the metal framework of the door, so as to hold the interior panel in place. When the alarm installer (from the previous owner) removed the drivers door panel to install a lock solenoid, he broke the keyhole-like opening where the little plastic fasteners attach to the fiberboard, in several spots.
I'm looking for a good way to reattach the plastic fasteners solidly into the fiberboard. My driver's door inside panel is a little loose.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions & ideas.

Not too sophisticated, but I put them back with white adhesive backed foam tape.

I've had good success patching the plastic plugs to the door panel "cardboard" with fiberglass repair kits. The kit I use is from Bondo and consists of a small amount of fiberglass mat and separate resin. Cut out a roughly 2" by 2" square of mat, push it over the plug, and smear the resin over the mat and onto the hardboard (softboard?) of the panel. Cures very quick and hard as a rock.
Good luck.

I too have this problem with my 245's rear door and have resorted to double-sided tape to stop it rattling (really annoying) and would really appreciate a better remedy

Tried Lee's suggestion to repair plastic plugs with fiberglass repair kit. Works great!!! Fasteners become "part of the door inner panel". Really solid repair. No more rattles.
