85 740 Wgn rear door struts[ALL/1998] posted by LA on

Replaced originals bout 3 years ago. Now on one, the pivot "retainer" (ball socket) has opened up. Will try to fix, but otherwise where's a good place (read cheap) to get replacements? TIA.

When you replace these struts, be sure to also replace the ball studs that the strut mounts to - on both ends. These ball studs wear, and rough worn ones will quickley tear up a new gas strut! At the price of the gas struts, the ball studs are cheap insurance. I also use some silicone grease in them - Volvo brake grease works well.
