88 240 DL Broken tailgate wiring -- FIXED!!![ALL/1998] posted by Bob McCormick on

To all those who responded with sympathy and sage advice to my November posting regarding the broken tailgate wiring harnesses in my wife's 240 DL: Thank you very much!!!
I finally screwed up the courage to tackle the job today (knowing that my wife didn't need the car for the next several days). After about 2 1/2 hours, she now has working license plate lites, rear window defogger and rear wiper for the first time in several months. Absent the advice, I would still be out in my Syracuse winter time garage breathing semi-toxic fumes from the kerosine space heater, trying to dig my way out of the many pitfalls with which this job is frought.
Once again,
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!

Bob,
As one of the contributors you mentioned, your success story has inspired me to get out and fix mine this weekend. Coincidentally, mine is also a 88 240 DL and it is the right hand harness which has parted. Luckily, the weather here in southeast VA is more temperate. Glad it worked out for you; wish me luck.

I have an '83 Volvo 240DL wagon and both of my rear wiring harness's have broken to the tailgate.
Please, could you let me know the secrets you have to help me be successful with this project
Thanks
Hal

Hal,
Go to the Brickboard Archives and search on "tailgate". I just did and I believe all of the earlier messages are there.
If you find those sufficient, post a message on the board so the members won't regenerate all of their suggestions.
Good Luck
