1998 S70
Does anyone have problems with the A/C, Fan, Temp Knobs cracking and peeling. No problem getting them replaced. We are on the third set. Any response or suggestions on what is causing this problem is greatly appreciated. Dealer states we are the only ones with this problem.

I have a V70 that I've had for almost 10 months with no problems with knobs. Does the operator of this car use some sort of hand cream regularly before driving? I used to work at a dealer and I had more than one customer that would wear the rubber off the steering wheel due to hand creams. No other cars would have any evidence of wear on strg. wheel. Advised cust. to cease use of cream after second wheel and problem stopped. Probably the corrosive effects of cow placentas or whatever they use in the stuff.
Just my guess.

Ditto on never seeing this occur yet.

I have noticed my S70 Sunroof switch starting to peel. It appears that they are using some sort of very thin silicone coating on all of the knobs and controls. If you happen to scuff it with a fingernail, it comes off pretty easily. I think they do this to give the knobs a tactile feel, but it seems prone to peeling off. I've not yet complained to my dealer, but I was going to show them at the next service. glad to know it's happining to someone else too.
