A/C switch blowing fuses[ALL/1998] posted by Dennis Nordin on

My 1983 240 just started blowing fuses this am.when I turn on the A/C switch.
It prevents my windows from operating until I replace the fuse.
Does the solenoid switch for the windows have any connection with the A/C switch?
What else can cause a short of this type? Any help appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

It is a 242 turbo with intercooler upgrade Slant nose SE.

Visually inspect the wire going to the compressor clutch. If this appears fine, unplug the wire from the compressor and see if it still occurs. The clutch coils can short together and cause this fuse blowing problem. And, yes, the clutch can be replaced separately.

Mark
Thank you, the wire clutch wire was frayed from rubbing, shrink wrapped, all is fine!
