S70 strange problems[ALL/1998] posted by Stu Glass on

I have an S70 GLT that has had a bunch of small electrical problems.
The first was a truck that would pop open without reason. This was fixed after three attempts by the dealer and the relacement of the control unit to a newer 2 click version.

Next came the power antenna that would fully expend. This was fixed after 2 attempts with the replacement of the control unit for antenna. Now the newest little problem is a fuel door that will not open 100% of the time. The dealer has reseated the connectors and today replaced the power window switch.

Are these little problems unique to my car, or does the S70 have a way to go??

Stu

Hej Stu
Nothing happends without a reason!
The remote buttons were known to be very light in their touch. And the cure didnt come until recently. Its happend to me but then again I didnt complain as I knew that the trunk only opens after receiving an open comand.
The radio antenna have always been asore point. If you live in the snow belt
you will find out why.
As for the rest of the problems I would suggest you ask your retailer if they actually prepped the car!You paid for it.

Stu,
What you are experiencing are some common problems with your S70. The trunk and antenna problems were adressed properly, and should be fixed. The fuel door may be fixed by replacing the master window switch, but maybe not. Can you hear the fuel door motor working when you press the button? I've started to see a few of these, and I think that there are two problems. The spring that opens the door is weak, and the two rubber studs that protrude from the seal around the filler neck seem to be sticking to the sticker inside the fuel filler door. I've tried applying light grease to the contact points, but this is a temporary fix. Were still working on fixing this problem. Unfortunately there is no mechanical release for the door. Stupid!
Unfortunately you have a vehicle in it's first year of production, for the most part, and you're going to have problems like this. I know that Volvo works hard to remedy these problems, but sometimes it can take longer than the customer and the dealer would like. Good Luck

I also am having strange elecrtical problems with my S70. The battery has died twice in the last 3 months, the engine cooling fan would not stop working(and probably drained the battery) and a few other minor things. Also I have a strong odor coming out of my AC. Is this normal for a volvo?
