Oil Leak on 850 Turbo[ALL/1998] posted by Sonny Chee on

I bought a 94 Turbo Wagon about 6 months ago. It had 38K miles on it so it was still under warranteed. The Turbo was leaking but it was fixed before I bought it. After a month, I noticed there is still a small leak on the Turbo, so I brought it back to the dealer and the dealer called Volvo, and Volvo said there was a technical bulletin on this problem and instructed the dealer to just replace a gasket on the Turbo. After two months and 3000 miles, I noticed the Turbo still leaking. So I brought the car back to the dealer for the third time
and this time the dealer said the small leak is normal. I disagree with the
dealer and knowing that anything that leaks is not normal and I don't know
if the leak will cause future problems like worn out turbo parts and shorten
the life of the turbo. I want the Turbo to be replaced and the dealer said
they will talk to Volvo. The car is still at the dealer for further diagnostics.
Has anybody experienced this problem and what was done on it?

You say the "turbo" is leaking. Exactly where is the oil leaking from? Have you seen this leak yourself? Just how bad is it? Does it drip on the ground?

The dealer said it was the connector on the Turbo that was leaking. I don't
know the names of all the parts on the Turbo, but I can see the tiny leaking from underneath the car and I can see the oil spot on the floor. Before I
bought it, it was sitting on the lot and I can see a lot of oil leaking and it
smeared all underneath the car. The dealer had the leak fixed. Since the car had only 38K miles on it and it is still under warranteed, so I decided to buy
the car after a thorought checkup by a certified Mercedes mechanic. After I had
the car a week, I noticed there was still a tiny leak on the connector and
I brought it into the dealer and replaced the connector again. After three months and 4000 miles I noticed the tiny oil spot on the floor again. This
time the dealer said the connector was wrongly fitted so they replaced the
connector (I think they said it was a new and improved one) and I got the car
back last Friday and they leak seems to be stopped for now. We'll see after
couple of weeks.
