V8 conversion questions[ALL/1998] posted by Jim Mewkill on

Having committed to converting a '89 740 wagon, I was wondering how those who have already done it selected muffler placs to do the work.
Did you go through recommendation or just to the local "custom" muffler installer?

Hi Jim-My daily driver is a '79 Bertone/262C w/350 Olds/Cad 4 speed/etc. I just had the exhaust system "done" w/2.0" pipe from the headers on back. Price was $356.00/US. Well worth the $$$. It's a work of art and by rights, should be on display. I *did not* seek out a franchise shop. I did, however, ask the local race car guys who was agreeable, accommodating, and realistic regarding price. Get a ball park estimate before you commit. Stay away from purist egotists. The job is no big deal for a person w/a tubing bender and reasonable welding skills. Good luck - Jim Ells
