850 front end noise[ALL/1998] posted by Cheng Chang on

My '94 854 non-turbo is making a grindig kind of noise from the front end.
The noise sounds like something is rubbing something at certain spot so
the frequency of the noise would change according to the speed of the car.
If I make a right turn, the driver side front axle will introduce another
grinding noise and it will go away as soon as the car goes straight again.
My dealer has already replaced the driver side front bearing assembly just
two weeks ago for the same problem and I don't think they had fixed it.

Has anyone of you experienced/heard the same problem on a 850?

My car will be out of warranty pretty soon and I don't want to pay for the
big repair bill after 5k.

Thanks

Cheng

You should take it back to the Volvo dealership and have them test drive it with you in the car. Besides it's still under warrenty! Suggest you ask them to check the brake calipers and brake pads and rotors since he's in that area!

Good luck!

Henry

We have had a similar problem, solved by the local dealer.

The mechanic said he lubricated a "steering stop" under the car, and the noise went away. I shall find out where he lubricated the car, and what lubricant he used when I return to the dealer

By the way, the noise has returned, suggesting that I'll find out soon!

Regards,

Dave
