91' 740 Paint & low beam headlight burnout[ALL/1998] posted by Jim Ellis on

Please advise me if 91 740's are prone to bad paint jobs.
My car is gunmetal gray and has been garaged most of the time.
I am now witnessing what appear to be small sores on the hood that cannot
be rubbed out with regular wax. I don't think the car has been exposed to
any industrial pollutants, at least none that I am aware of.

Also is low beam headlight burnout common?

Thanks

Jim, I have had the same trouble on my 90 240 DL AKA "The Silver Surfer". I have some small spots on hood that seen to be paint failure including the clear coat. Touch up looks like dreck so I'm planning a paint job soon. No info from Volvo.

Headlight bulbs-I went thru 2 sets then switched to Phillips/Sylvania LL (Long Life) after finding that the std. ones would have a black spot on bottom of glass envelope after 30 days-due to filiment sagging.(Having used Halogens in Movie biz for 20 years this is caused by a lack of support structure =poor design! LL Bulbs have a stronger larger wire frame to support the filiment thus last longer.)
