Hello everyone,
I'm interested in buying a 1989 740 or 760 Turbo wagon. Can anybody be kind enough to provide me with all available specifications for these models. Most available vehicles in my area (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) seems to have approximately 90K to 125K miles. What type of service and maintenance will I be expecting for the next 50K miles? I would greatly appreciate any information and/or past experience with these vehicles. Thanks in advance!
Soon to be a Volvo lover,
Thomas Lee

I have a 1986 760 Turbo wagon that I bought new. It has 261,000 miles on it and is still used daily as my primary vehicle. I use this car for long vacation drives as well as locally. Other than brakes, exhaust, etc., these are the significant repairs I have had.
80K voltage regulator
100K air mass meter for fuel injection
135K water pump
135K A/C condenser
200K radiator
200K ignition switch
230K fan motor
240K drive shaft u-joints
250K fuel pump and relay
The car has been very reliable, twice in 11+ years it left me stranded. The first time when the voltage regulator died (my own fault for not believing the gauge) and when the fuel pump died. I maintain the car by the Volvo maintenance schedule except for oil and filter changes which I have always done at 2500 miles. The car has no rust and the paint still shines. Hope this is some help.

Just bought a 760 turbo wagon myself and it has 103K on it. We had the seller put a new timing belt on it since that's supposed to be done every 50K. I'm a little nervous about all the electric gizmos (seats, sunroof, mirrors, locks, seat heaters, mirror heaters, etc.) that I'm sure will be expensive to replace when they fail, but otherwise the car seems really solid and well-built. Oh, and I'm told rear liftgates tend to fall apart since they get slammed shut too often.
Not sure what to think about the life of the turbo itself but it sure is nice to have.
Best of luck with your decision.
