Turbo boost gauge[ALL/1998] posted by Larry Maxwell on

I just recently purchased an 83 240 turbo without the intercooler. Under full throttle the needle on the boost gauge barely gets in the the yellow portion of the the gauge. Plus the performance is not so hot. I bought the car knowing all of this due to the fact I love Volvos and this one has a great body.
My buddy has an 87 Saab 9000 turbo, and I can get his boost gauge into the red every time.
Does this mean a bad turbocharger, restricted exhaust, bad catalytic converter, cams out of adjustments, all or none of the above. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

Larry,
Could be any of the above. First check all the plumbing. A hole between the turbo and the intake manifold would pump your boost into the atmosphere rather than into your combustion chambers.
