Volvo headlight lens protectors - seeking advice[ALL/1998] posted by mark e. barron on

Worried about the lens on a recently purchased '93' 850. A place in St. Louis , IMPARTS, advertises a protector that is flexible and held in place with adhesive. I am wondering about a non-flexible shield, which seems to me would be more protective. I would be greatful for your thoughts, experience, and suggested suppliers. Do these protectors work in junction with the headlight wipers? Many thanks, Mark

Mark, What you ae doing is placing a thin mylar type plastic over the surface of thr lens to take the initial hit and spread the impact across the plastic film rather than the headlight lens. There are several types of rigid protectors and as I recall they all scratch when used with the wipers. They are much thicker and crack easily in cold weather.I went thru several sets on my 240 and found they werent worth it. The thinner flexable plastic is ok. Nothing will save you from a serious hit. The smaller gravel type hits will be absorbed by the flex plastic.
