140 exhaust system question[ALL/1998] posted by Trevor G. on

I have a '71 144S with a B20B engine and auto transmission. I use it as a daily driver. It has the stock exhaust system with the two mufflers, which are both fast approaching replacement time (at about $100 apiece). I was wondering if I really need both of them, as other cars seem to get by quite nicely with only one. Can anybody tell me any bad things that might occur if I only installed a new front one, and just put a piece of pipe in place of the rear cross-mounted one? (Other than a slight (?) increase in the noise level?). Thanks in advance.
