122s B16B Cylinder head removal[ALL/1998] posted by Mark Levermore on

Help. I attempted over the weekend to replace the head gasket on my 1961 122s B16B engine as it's blowing water from the exhaust pipe!

Removed all the peripherals - exhaust and inlet manifold, rocker cover, rocker arm and undid all the head nuts from the studs, went to pull the head off and it's stuck fast.

Even the efforts of an engine hoist made no impact beyond the intial 1/8th of an inch gap that's appeared around the base of the head.

Anyone come across this problem before - is there a possibility that the head has "welded" itself to the engine block?

I suspect that the head is the original for this engine - whether the engine is the original for the car I don't know.

Is my onlyu course to tighten it all back down and try Radweld to sort out the water in the cylinders problem?

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

Yours desparately.....

There's probably gunk[rust, etc.] between the head studs and the head. Try some light oil or liquid wrench down the studs. Good luck.
