544 misfire problem -- carb related[ALL/1998] posted by Harley Johansen on

I replaced an after-market (I think) Holly carb on my 1961 B16 engine (this is the single throat carb model, 6 volt system). I installed a new Zenith Stromberg carb which was original equipment. Immediately after installation, the car started to miss under load. I had carb adjusted by pro. and it still misses unless I pull choke out a little. I have replaced all plugs, points, and wires. Any ideas? thanks, Harley Johansen

It's a lean condition. Is this a downdraft Zenith? You probably need a richer main jet (if it's indeed a NEW carb and you're sure none of the passages are plugged).---Brian
