brake fluid change[ALL/1998] posted by JH on

How much work is there to changing the brake fluid on a 94 960.

I just had the 30 K service done on our car at a Volvo Dealership.

I did the plugs and air filter myself to save some cake.

I'm trying to find out if the labor charge of $162.50 was fair. An oil change, flush brakes, rotate tires, topping off fluids, chassis lubrication?... was all they did.

I'm gonna call them on this but I'm curious about the time required to change brake fluid.

Thanks

JH

JH, $162.50 for what amounts to normal fluid maintenance does sound outrageous. My Volvo dealer charges $70/hr, so this would have to take over 2 hrs, which I dont see. UNLESS, bleeding the brake system was included in the flush of the brake system. Bleeding is more involved and can take some time if air gets into the system to complicate things. But if the charge was related to the 30k service you mention, then theres more to it then just the fluid service. Isnt the 30k service one of the 'biggies'? Lastly, if you want to renew the brake fluid yourself, than bleeding is required, and , at least with my car, a '95 850 Turbo, IPD told me to have it professionally done since it requires 'power' bleeding for the ABS.
