Help....i have a 79 242DL 4clyn. just put a intank pre-pump(fuel)cant get it to start.Getting fuel up past inline filter.Ran good before changing..some help please first volvo...thanks

Kev, suspect the main pump is not turning. Had this problem recently on both a '78 245 and an '86 240.
Use CAUTION trouble shooting the fuel system!!!!
Listen to hear the main pump running. If not, pull the wires off the main pump and get 12vdc to it and get it to pump. The filter sock on my prepump had a hole that let small particles get into the main pump and stop it. I was able to get one running by turning it backwards -- the other I had to replace ($50 at a recycle yard).
Wish you luck -- I fought this problem for more than three months.
