brakes for 850[ALL/1998] posted by Nick Gidakos on

Hi Everybody,
My name is Nick and I was wondering if there is an on line site that describes the replacing(or should I get the manual from Hanes or Volvo) of the pads on a 95 850(front). I am trying to do it myself. I took the car to Midas and they want $230 for it. I think that wa a rip off. Or should I forget about it and go to the dealer? Any comments will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Nick

Nick, I replaced the front pads on my '95 850 Turbo last weekend. I only have 13000 miles, so the reason for replacement was that I was tired of covering up those gorgeous 16" swept style 5 spoke alloys with that awful and large amount of dust, which the stock pads produce. They may stop great, and have good feel, but theyre just too dusty. So I replaced them with Repco Deluxe pads from IPD, which are made of asbestos fibre, and produce NO Dust! I was charged under 50$ for the set, and aside from a difficult spring clip retainer to re-attach on the outside of each caliper, the job went smoothly, and only took 1.5 hours, most of it struggling with those spring clips. Since the rotors had so little mileage, I did feel they needed any processing. What you were quoted seems an awful lot, unless the rotors needed turning. I would definitely try it yourself.
